I am brand new to PC building. I have, however, ingested hundreds of hours of info from the web, and feel that I am about ready to tackle my project...but I have questions about fans and my particular cooling setup. So far, I have the following hardware:
Fractal Node 605 - Fractal's website details that it is set up to run positive pressure cooling http://www.fractal-design.com/home/product/cases/node-series/node-605
ASUS Gryphon mobo - http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/GRYPHON_Z97/
Rosewill 750W 80+Gold PSU - http://www.rosewill.com/products/1806/ProductDetail_Overview.htm
1TB WD Black HDD
Samsung 840EVO 250GB SSD
G.Skill Ripjaws X 16GB (2x8GB) RAM
Zalman CPU Cooler - http://www.zalman.com/global/product/Product_Read.php?Idx=161
ASUS GTX770 DirectCU II - http://www.asus.com/Graphics_Cards/GTX770DC2OC2GD5/
And, I plan on picking up the Intel i5 4690k - http://ark.intel.com/products/80811/Intel-Core-i5-4690K-Processor-6M-Cache-up-to-3_90-GHz
I plan to use this as a HTPC/Gaming rig, in a house that is typically kept in the low to mid 70's (F°). The Fractal case comes with:
- 5 fan slots total (3 - 120mm + 2 - 80mm)
- 2 – 120mm Silent Series R2 fans included
- Air filters for side fans and PSU
- Integrated three-channel fan controller (included)
I will probably play with overclocking. I will play an average of 3 hours of games per day, some of them very taxing, and the remainder of its use will be delivering audio and video, and navigating the internet.
So, my question is...if I decided to regularly run at a mild overclock, keeping voltage around 1.25 (max), what type of extra cooling would you recommend, and would you recommend replacing the Zalman air cooler with a closed loop water cooler? And, lastly, should I take Fractal's advice and run at positive pressure?
I know this is a long post, and I would like to thank you, in advance, for your time and suggestions.
