Setting up first web sever. Domain/Sever help( solved)

Hey guys.
I am once again asking for help, with a project I am starting to post ever few days, but I really am not trying to spam let me know if it is a problem.

Anyway I need help with 2 things first is picking my domain name, The site will be for photography and practicing web development, so the site may change a bit, but right now it will be a personal website that shouldn't get much traffic. I Have looked into the domian name I want and have a few I like is there anything that I should really look out for. The 2 ideas i have are my name as the website or my online name perkelator. perkelator.com is taken and that was my first pick. Is using a "gamer tag" a bad idea or perfectly fine? I know this may not matter but better safe than sorry. Is a .me site weird for a personal site I know that is what .me is used for, but I don't see anyone ever using it.

The second question is how good/bad of an idea is it to host a website off of my home network? I will be hosting it off of a older computer using ubuntu. Also looking for a guide this is the first time I will work with a server and want to make sure it is safe as it can be( i like to dive in and learn I learn better from that then just reading about it). I don't want to pay for hosting since the website wont be making money and will just be a place to look more professional and set up my development skills as time goes on, right now I am average, but I hope to get better and want the site to evolve as i do.

thanks for any help with this guys.

If you can get yourname.com (as in: joeschmoe.com) grab it. The ".me" is not weird, it is just most people are not familiar with the new top level domains.

I would not host a site off of your own network.

I use Dreamhost as my domain registrar and DigitalOcean as my web server. It is something like 5 bucks a month.

If you want to host at home, the first thing you might want to check is if your ISP is ok with it. Some residential providers might block ports 80 and 443, making it impractical to host a web server.

Also if it's for photography, make sure that your upload speed is fast enough, otherwise it might be rather painful for anyone wanting to view your pictures.

Also, please, set up SSL with a Let's Encrypt certificate. It's relatively easy to do with certbot, but we're here to help if you need it <3

I am going to look into that

I will look into prices for that not worth the risk, thinking about it I really just wanted to learn to work with/setup my a sever but i may just look into setting up an email or something.

Did not think about this my upload is pretty crap i think i need to scrap the idea for a payed host.
