Serenity - my custom case and custom loop (long-term)

Hello! This is the build log for my upcoming project, Serenity, aptly named after the beloved ship from Firefly, which will feature a custom made aluminium and acrylic test-bench style case, a custom loop with copper tubing, and a relatively powerful setup, including an overclocked 680 4GB, 3770k, and such.

The idea is to make a very powerful, compact, and silent PC, but keep that open and horizontal design of the test-bench. As of now, I have no sponsors, seeing as it isn't that grand of abuild, I doubt that I could get one, but I wouldlove some free watercooling gear ;)

So far, my planned parts are as followed:

Not to mention the sheet aluminium and acrylic for the test-bemch, which is essentially free, for me, at least.

Things to do:

  • Buy new PSU -in process, new PSU on its way
  • Sleeve new PSU
  • Build test bench -in process
  • Purchase watercooling hardware - pending
  • Assemble loop, bend pipe, etc.
  • Debezel monitor, and desk mount it with VESA stand

Now, I won't be able to get this done soon, per say. It will take me a good 2 months to purchase and assemble everything, but I will keep you updated as much as I can. When I'm done, expect some giveaways, including a Phanteks PH-TC14PE :D

Final pics well be here.

Man im looking forward to see how your's goes. Maybe later this year i might watercool my rig aswell.

right click, bookmarked.

I would love a how-to video on setting up a water cooling rig.  I used to wc back in the day, that is, Athlon XP/Tbird days, I still have the blocks SOMEWHERE, the radiators have long since perished, either gunked up and near impossible to clean, or punctured due to moving.

Can we see pics of what your current build looks like now?

Here you are :)

Got my first shipment today :D

Nice, clean build.

Can't wait to see the finished product.  Is that a Fractal Design R4?

Define XL USB 3.0, Titanium Grey.

NIce and clean build you have there.

Thanks! It will only get nicer and cleaner from here on out ;)

It's looking great so far. Hope all goes well.

It will look nothing like that when I am done; that is what I'm starting with. When I'm done, it will be much smaller, horizontal, watercooled, and sleeved ;)

Well then taking what you already have as an indication, this is going to be an awesome specimen indeed! :)

Aaaaand, I'm a dumbass.I bent my molex pin remover, somehow, before I started using it; it may have been from shipping. When I went to remove the pins on my test cables, the crimps were a little deep, so I applied a little more force, and snap, right where it was beant, it kept bending. Sigh... There goes $18.

As you can clearly see, I'm an idiot, but an idiot who just so happens to have $18 to spare.

Bad luck man. couldn't you just straighten it out with a little force?

That's not the problem. One of the pins snapped off!

Oh i see it now damn.

Not a pin on the cable, a pin on the remover. I need to buy a new molex pin remover, which is only $18; not a huge hit, by any means.

Well we all learn from mistakes. Just lucky you had the spare money to get a new one.
