Searx

Searx is a completely opensource search engine. It does not track what you search. And best of all you can self host it! You can have it private or set to run as a public site.

This is a for people looking to get off being depended on google

Here is a public instance of it.

https://www.searx.me/

I am running an instance on my web server (private). And love it.

Edit: Install information: https://asciimoo.github.io/searx/dev/install/installation.html

You can even run it as a local service on your desktop
Anyone else here use it?

Does anyone have a public instance they would like to share?

This looks interesting to say the least. I might try it out and if I like it, probably will default it to my home page or whenever I log on to my browser.

I briefly browsed through the source and noticed it is all written in python and is just a wrapper for all the most common REAL search engines. It's just another one of those crappy fake search sites that simply forwards your request to the real deal.

Sorry to rain on your parade.

That doesn't bother me. Main point is to obfuscate

obfuscate?

You realize all it's doing is adding another layer of tracking before just offloading your request to all the other search engines????

Just stick to one of these:

www.duckduckgo.com
www.google.com

This is a VERY old thread, and the OP is no longer on the site.
