Hello all! Today, I finally setup Seafile (woohoo!), however, I want to do some things that Seafile doesn’t seem to allow me to do. I was wondering if this amazing community could make my dreams not just be dreams, and make them a reality.
In case anyone is wondering why I am using Seafile instead of OwnCloud/Pydio… Two reasons: Mainly, I don’t wanna pay for the app, plus, when I tried to install OwnCloud on my Windows Server 2012 PC, MySQL confused the shiet out of me, so I gave up.
Now, back to the topic at hand. There are a couple of things that I was hoping to do in Seafile, which I can’t seem to find. Here’s a list:
- Backup all of my phone’s contents, such as sound recordings, bookmarks, and word documents, to the server. That type of stuff. I want Seafile to backup everything (NOT just Pictures+Videos) on the phone, to the server, and it doesn’t seem like that is an option, or at least I can’t find it.
- View ALL of the contents of my HDD that Seafile is installed on, with my Android device. It seems like I am only able view “stuff” that I placed into the folder called “My Library” in the Seafile app, however, I want to view and be able to access all of the data on the HDD.
- I want to be able to see all of the data that is uploaded from my phone, to the server, via Windows File Explorer. I DON’T want to have to use their web app to see all of the information that was transferred from my phone to the server.
I have a feeling that some of those will not be possible with Seafile. However, if you know how to get it to work with Seafile, or know of a different program/app (I NEED Android support), please tell me. I’d love to know and test it out.
Anyway, I hope some people can help!
Thanks!
I will do my best to answer your questions.
You can backup any type of file to Seafile. Are you meaning you want all of your phones files to be synced with your server?
Seafile's default database is sqlite/mysql/mariadb, so you wont have an ordinary windows file structure. You can only view the files that are uploaded to the Seafile server.
Again any data that is uploaded to Seafile will be stored in a mysql database. So you will have to know some basic sql commands to even look at the database, it cant be opened directly from windows file explorer.
Not to jump to any conclusions but you might be better suited with FTP setup with a vpn, judging by what you are trying to do.
wow ...i read selfie first time...><
I couldn't find an option inside the Seafile app to backup all data of the phone. I could only see the option to backup pictures plus videos. Does Owncloud or Pydio have that option inside of their apps?
I thought about doing an FTP setup, however, I don't know of any apps which will backup all of my phone's data to my server at home, easily. The main reason I was checking out these cloud services is because of how simple they are to setup, and allowed me to access my home server without needing to mess with network ports.
Currently, I am using an app called "Sweet Home" which backs up all of my pictures and videos as soon as I get home, via Wifi, but it does not back up anything else, plus, it doesn't backup my phones data while i'm away from home.
The most important feature that I need is being able to backup all data on my phone automatically, no matter where I am in the world, to my server, with encryption. The reason for this is because i've lost a lot of data because of damage or accidental deletion of information, and I want it to stahp.
Bumperoni, again.
I hope some other people will input and suggest me alternative software that will do exactly what I want, because I don't know of any, and can't find any.
