So ya as the title says. I overclocked my monitor using NVidia control panel custom resolution from 60hz to 74hz. When I play a game my FPS counter says I'm getting 74hz and v-sync is on. But all the games have tearing no matter what I do. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
you overclocked your monitor too far simple as that.
Hmmm well I down clocked it step by step and it only stopped doing it at 61hz. I feel like it must be something else. Considering I can v-sync at 60hz and don't get tearing if it goes to 61 every couple frames and not tear. So that's pretty much telling me I cant overclock my monitor at all which doesn't make sense.
that's pretty common... what model monitor is it?
BenQ GW2765 1440p monitor
usually Benq monitors like 70hz but like I said it's really common for 60hz to be all you can do. have you verified you are indeed getting 70 fps with vsync? it might be trying to sync to 60hz still.
The fps counter in steam games says I'm getting 74fps and games like civ V say it's v sync @ 74 hz. But to be completely honest it doesn't look any smoother then 60 fps and I can usually tell the difference pretty well. So somehow I feel like something is lying.
your monitor just isn't keeping up which is why it isn't syncing. it isn't lying so much as it just can't do it.
Also does ocing your monitor add latency? I thought back in the day people would cut from 60 to 59 with vsync to reduce the latency. Could be wrong I don't remember all that well anymore...
