I am want to at somepoint soon upgrade my monitor(just got to save up) i know i need to get an ips,but i and trying to decide if i should get a monitor like logan just reviewed,or should i just get a 23"-24",i do know that at one point back when i was using a CRT and it died on me i bought a 32" 720p TV from the walmart i work at,and not only was it to big to play right in front of,but also the picture quality was horrible,so i had returned it and got a 22" LG TN panel(which i still have lol).
I game and watch youtube and movies on my system, but i also plan to video/audio editing at some point.
So my question is what screen size to you guys is to big to use on a desk? Also is the extra resolution worth the extra $100 more than the 23" screen i had picked before?
The extra resolution would definetely benefit you if you watch movies/youtube. Im using a 24'' screen on a fairly regular size desk and its fine. If you get a higher resolution monitor, make sure your gpu can handle it or else you wont find yourself video editing any time soon.
Look at the Shimian or Qnix that Logan reviewed, I'm buying one hopefully fairly soon. It being too big is just up to you.
for the best image quality you will want a non tn panal that has the largest resolution in the smallest size.
I have a 27" 1080p AVMA BenQ Monitor and from where i used to sit with my 21.5" 1680 x 1050 i can see a slight bit of jagged edges on rounded icons because of the monitor being so large, but then again i used to sit only 2 1/2 to 3 fet away from my monitor, not that my new monitor is father back you cant tell the difference unless your closer to it (more than 4-5 feet) so 1080p at 24" will be crystal clear for an average sitting distance.
On another note you dont have to go IPS, the rule of thumb is to just not buy a TN panel, you can get a good BenQ 24" AVMA 1080p Monitor for like 150$ and they have a Static contrast ratio of 5000, 4ms GTG ect... and Their Colour reproduction can be just as good as an IPS but are usually cheaper and have faster response times than IPS panels.
In short anything Non TN with a Decent Response time and a Static Contrast ration of 1:1000 or more and youll be set.
I think my gpu could handle it,i have a reference 7970.
