Screen resolution issue / Ubuntu GNOME 14.10

I have a problem setting my resolution to my monitor's native resolution, which is 1680x1050.
I am running Ubuntu 14.10 GNOME, and for my GPU I am using the GTX 750 TI w/ driver version 346 (installed following wendell's instructions based off a post).
My xrandr output is the following:

*minimum 640 x 480, current 1280 x 1024, maximum 1280 x 1024
default connected primary 1280x1024+0+0 0mm x 0mm
1280x1024 0.0*
1024x768 0.0
800x600 0.0
640x480 0.0
1680x1050_60.00 (0x1af) 146.2MHz
h: width 1680 start 1784 end 1960 total 2240 skew 0 clock 65.3KHz
v: height 1050 start 1053 end 1059 total 1089 clock 60.0Hz*

I have already tried adding it with the "xrandr --newmode" command, but there seems to be no way for me to use it.
Also, I can't see the name of the output in the list (VGA1, HDM1 ...), I'm using a VGA connection but when I try to use VGA1 using xrandr, as seen in some posts on other forums, I get an error.

what screen is it? I will try and do some research.
