Okay so I know I've been asking a few questions, but this was my first build, and I want to make sure everything gets done right nad perfect.
I've now been running my new rig for a day or two. And I've noticed besides the loud pump/fans from the H80i I got (I may replace if I can't find a way to tune that thing) I noticed a weird squeeling, or screeching noise when ever my CPU starts to do something. For instance on start up/ restarts, or if a program starts to increase in cpu demand. I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem, and if so have they ever fixed it, and if so how. I have the i7-3770k on a AsRock Z77 Extreme 4 MBU. Other parts include a Seagate Barracuda 1TB, OCZ vertex 4, MSI Twin Frozr 2 GTX 680, and an LG DVD/RW Drive. (In case its not my CPU?) Hope thats enough info, I never really came across this problem in my old rig. granted it was built in 2009.
So it is the Cooler making the screeching noise then huh? If you had a choice of a closed loop system what would you pick as a replacement. Sadly the Define R4 can't fit any "H100" sized ones in the top.
Or should I just go with one of those Noctura things I hear about, (would that fit with Corsair vengence RAM in place?) I Haven't started OCing yet, but I plan on trying to hit 4.6GHZ if possible. So I need something that can withstand that heat built up.
There is another heatseink I forgot the name of, something something silver arrow? idk I truthfully never really herd too many bad things about the H-series, but I guess they best way to know is to experience it yourself.
thermalright silver arrow SB-e. umm, i'll have to look into the fit with vengeance. I kno they fit over ripjaws... it's a little taller than the noctua, 170mm.
and as far as closed-loop goes, most are shitty, and I don't think you can fit an nzxt cooler.
I've heard alot of bad things about h coolers... if the pump fail, ur cpu just bit the dust....
research findings: it will fit over vengeance.... but you have to put the front fan on the back of the heatsink.
and why'd u get vengeance anyways, the heat spreaders do nothing, just look good and make it impossible to fit good heatsinks.
At the time the Vengece were at a really cheap price so I got them, and there was few choices for a 2133 and had 1.5 Volts.
My cpu seems to be doing okay atm, but I am deffinatlly going to remove the pump when I get home. it sits at about 30c except one core is like 35 for some reason.
So would you suggest the thermalright silver arrow sb-e extreme be a good choice then?
I am still deffinetly learning much about computers, and I thank you for giving me this info.
i do not reccomend the sb-e EXTREME, it's pretty loud, as the fans on the extreme run pretty fast. just get the regular sb-e, there's only like 1 or 2 degrees difference, tu the extreme is like 5db louder (meaning 50% louder, as db is a non-linear scale, every 10 db is twice as loud)
I did not know that about db's. That is really good to know. Is there an article that you found that out on, or is that just common knollegde these days?
I've been reading some articles on it, and it seems to be put up against the noctua nh-d14 a lot. How would you say that comepares? And would that be better, or as good if the price is lower?
What you're hearing is normal and nothing to worry about (unless it's really loud). It's coming from inductors used in DC to DC converter on the motherboard that supplies power to the CPU.
Well its loud enough to be heard through my headset whilst listening to music, playing games, and talking, and over the sound of my pump/fan of the H80i. Not sure if thats louder then normal.
Okay so back onto that squeeling noise, I started to look into it and it talks about 'coil whine' and from what it seems like its comming from the PSU. Not sure if thats okay or not...i have a Cosair AX850...
Coil Whine can be fixed by RMA but not always. Sometimes its how it was manufactured, or the batch itself. It does not affect its performance, just annoying.
Okay well I know at least the PSU is doing it...those fans are so loud though its hard to do a funnel test to find out if thats the only noise. I'll keep this updated...for RMA who should I send it to?
