SAS HBA capable of 2TB+ HDD's

Hi Guys and Gals and to the Tek Syndicate Crew,

Basically I need a HBA that is capable of 2TB+ HDD that’s reasonably cheap. Most of the cheap and readily available one’s top out at 2.2TB (based on the LSI1038 I believe).

Why do I need a HBA… well I have a lovely Supermicro 24 disk chassis, however the interconnect is an SFF-8087 connector with a SAS expander built in.

I have been looking at getting an LSI 9211i and flashing it to IT mode, however I was wondering if anyone had some better suggestions (that they know work with FreeNAS).

Thanks All

The old lsi1068 is limited to 2.1tb but anything newer ie lsi2008 or lsi3008 is good.

The card you picked would be great or one based on the same 2008 controller.

IBM M1015 tons of people use it already and cheap to boot. I use it to drive 2 HP SAS expanders with drives of 3 and 4 TB a piece.

Thanks for the info guys, just need to actually get a card now :P

I have a 9211-8i and just recently got a 9207-8e. The 9211 was reasonably priced on eBay shipped from China. Great cards, just have to make sure to get the IT firmware on both matched up to the driver version in the OS. And try not to mind the eons they will add to your boot time ;D
