I am wondering which GPU would be better for playing games such as Battlefield, COD, Minecraft, and Crisis 3.

Look up some benchmark comparisons for the two cards but, as far as I can remember, the 680 preforms better overall but the 7970 gives you more bang for your buck. Still, I would look up some benchmark comparisons between the two cards but if you have a large budget for your GPU, definently go GTX 680.

Unless you plan to also do some editing with software that takes advantage of cuda cores then get the 7970.
