I own a Sapphire HD 7970 Ghz Edition Vapor-X for over a year now. I was having high temperatures around 80-88 C. So I tried cleaning it and replacing the thermal compound present in the GPU. So I went and bought a Thermal Paste for around 3$ If I convert it to US Dollars. I live in United Arab Emirates. Al-Ain to be precise. Now my GPU temps when I was playing Thief and Battlefield 4 hovered around 80s, when it finally reached somewhere around 95C and the PC restarted. I used MSi AfterBurner to see my Temps. i dont know what thermal compound is it. Its a unknown brand. i suspect that to be the problem. And also the Thermal PADs in my GPU were dusty and torn (a few were torn, 2-3), like in half, I just placed them properly. I wanted to know whether this thermal Pads may cause any probleam and do I have to replace those. I have ordered Cooler Master Extreme Fusion X1, a thermal compound. Do you suggestion this thermal compound for my CPU and GPU. Is it easy to use? Should I use the Pea method for application of the thermal paste? And is it normal for the PC to restart if it is around 95C (for my GPU)? And finally is changing the thermal paste gonna fix the problem? If you are in UAE please suggest a place to buy Thermal PADs, if it is needed. And also I am looking for Metrovac Datavac ED500, a very famous PC duster, it is VERY hard to find in UAE. A new thermal paste for my GPU is my only hope. I also want you to approximately say how much will the Temps drop if I use the Cooler Master thermal compound. I also across Arctic Accelero Extreme 7970 VGA Cooler. Will this help, If yes then by how much? Anyway, I know that is a too much questions too ask in one post. I am sorry but I hope that you guys may able to answer all of the questions. And my case is Gigabyte Luxo M1004, I dont think it has a very nice air circulation but I think it is ok. My PC does has some space left in it so I think the air flow is not the big issue here. These are all my problems and requests, I think I gave all the enough information to solve this problem. My gtx 770 aims for 80c. Though 95c is high, the gpu will usually throttle pretty hard to avoid shutting down or anything like that. has it always been this hot or only recently? Some cards just run really hot and I think 7970's are typically on the hot side of things.

You Live in the UAE, what are your ambient temperatures? Do you have air conditioning? The fact that it is hotter now would suggest that either the thermal compound was not applied correctly. It is crap thermal compound or that the heat sink was not reassembled correctly.
Ambient temperatures are important. Also, you need to have enough fans to get the hot air out of the case. Don't ever use "no name" thermal compounds they can vary a lot. There's a good video on here about applying thermal paste if you do a search for it. I'd recommend re-applying it to your CPU as well, sounds like you may be cooking it.
sounds like you already know what you're doing. there are bettter thermal compounds out there. a google search will show you. but i dont know what the availability in your area is.
Ambient Temperatures are around 25-28C or maybe lower. Yes, I do have air conditioning. I just bought the thermal paste that I was talking about earlier and I am going to apply it. I am using the Pea Method. As for the case fans, I have 2 fans ... 1 for intake and the other is exhaust. This is the thermal that I currently bought http://www.coolermaster.com/cooling/thermal-grease/extreme-fusion-x1/ . The temperatures increased after application of the older thermal compound ("no name" one). I am going to apply the new thermal compound. I will say the results once it is done. And what about the thermal pads? For now i will use the grease cleaner including with the new thermal compound. But for later uses I have ethyl alcohol 95%. Is that alright and is it safe?? Okay, I applied the new thermal that I mentioned above and the temperatures fell rapidly. I mean BIG TIME. Now Thief is around 60-65C and Battlefield 4 is 66-70C. These results are WAY better than the results when i got my GPU. BF3 was around 75 or something and Thief was around 80+ C. So, I dunno about thermal pad but so far so goods.
