San Build with chatgpt

Well I bought some NVME u.2 Drives, optane drives and eypc motherboard/processors.

I think it would be fun to ask chatgpt how to set it up in the best configuration (OS,Raid Type,Raid). Ask it the steps and see how it all works before I put it into production.

What a fun idea. Tell us all about your experience.

p.s. don’t forget to ask chatgpt to put it together for you as well

Hey, would you mind sharing how the build has come along and how it is performing?

Well I ended up doing raidz2 for both optane and nvme in san1 and raid 0 in san2.

I have it snapshoting my optane raid every 30 sec copying it to san2 and then deleting the snapshot.

same thing but every 5 min for nvme raid which is for vms

its way over kill about 300k iops on optane and around 83k on nvme no cacheing with the same test.

The one strange thing is when writing to the nvme or optane from a proxmox CT it only gets around 8mb/s if i go from a vm it is around 900mb/s which is basically topping out that 10gb connection from the vm server to the san.

I am currently working on writing a management interface to monitor the sans for drive failures and do the syncing then tell the vm servers which one to use during a fail over then fail back event.
Its going slow I am not really a programmer I took java in highschool and well that was 17 years ago at this point.
Here is my layout, still deciding if i should just move my truenas into my san2 plenty of room and power there. Eliminate some power and heat

Also AI has been tickling my adhd nerve lately trying to decide if i get 4090. 7900xtx or wait for next gen. \

Only windows pc I have is that cad/cam machine and I just use parsec to connect to it from which ever machine I am running that day or my desk.
