Samsung SSD 840 vs 840 pro

Hey guys ive been looking around for a SSD and ive decided to settle on getting a Samsung or Intel drive. Although im looking at a 120Gb 840 for around $97 and then i started looking at the 840 pro and discovered that it was $145. Why is there such a massive price difference? I can see that the pro drive is much quicker at writing and quite a bit quicker at random reads.

For a boot drive is there going to be much of a difference between these two drives? Can someone just reassure ne that the 840 isnt going to be a total waste of money compared to getting the pro.

The 840 Pro is amoung the fastest consumer SSD's out in the market when it comes to read and write speeds. The regular 840 has this TLC technology which basically gives it a lower write speed but has a fast read speed. Best use for a regular 840 would be for your OS drive where you would put your main applications on since you would only have to have them installed once and all you would need is to recieve/retrieve the data. If you are constantly transferring data in and out of the drive ie: Video editing I would go with the pro. But for OS and main applications: Vegas, CS6, Games the 840 (non-Pro) may be a good choice for value. I wouldn't put the 840 (non-Pro) in RAID 0, you would be better off with the latter.

I've got the regular 840 240GB flavor for my OS drive and I don't see/feel any diffrence compared to the Intel 520 120GB in my other rig when booting up or starting a game. Both feel just as fast. Also, when downloading from the internet there is only so much data that can travel to my PC when DL'ing from Steam - Xfinity 25Mbps Blast HSI. Would I really need 6Gbps write speed in this case? Would you? Unless you need to write large files to your SSD at a high rate of speed there really is no need for fast write. Fast read though is a diffrent story.
