Dear forum, I recently purchased two Samsung 990 Pro 2 TB drives and I plan on putting them in a RAID 0 on a Asus Z790 ProArt main board. I have been seeing and hearing reports of the drives destroying themselves; however, I also know that once a user has RMAed the drive, Samsung has sent it back stating there is nothing wrong. So are we looking at a software glitch or a firmware error or are we looking at real hardware damage? I will start the build Saturday.
If you want to know my current system I am building is a 13900KS, 64 GB DDR 5 RAM at 5600 MT/S, 1000 Asus ATX 3.0 PSU(ATX 3.0 PSUs are hard to find right now), Asus TUFF 4090 RTX and two Samsung 990 Pro 2 TB I will put in RAID 0., Creative AE9 sound card, MSI 360 mm CPU liquid cooler(The Asus 360 cooler is hard to get right now). Fractal Design 7 XL PC case the big one no side window.
I am upgrading from a X99 6950X on a Asus WS-E, 64 GB RAM PC 2400, 1080Ti EVGA, Creative Labs 2XR Sound blaster, Thermaltake 1500 Watt PSU from 2011(Old still runs well, Intel 750 series m.2 first Gen NMVE x2 480 GB. LAin Li PC-V2130 Case. I did NOT want to upgrade my PC case. I love this case. but it wont support the 360 mm radiator. Will run Windows 11
Finally, I will be upgrading monitors, I have three Asus Pro Art 24" 1920-X1200 IPS and it’s time to upgrade, I am visually impaired so I don’t want to do the ultra wide panels but I do want the QD-OLED Samsung or Alienware but I don’t want ultra wide so I may go with that Asus ROG Swift PG32UQX but I don’t care for RGB, I just want quality. Looking for 4K, over 100 Hz, IPS or better, 34" I currently own a Samsung S95B QD-OLED TV 65’ and I LOVE it so I wanted a QD-OLED PC monitor but all they make is ultra wide plus I am sure on a PC there are burn ins.
I just like building high-end systems and doing cool things with them. To me, its much more then just gaming, I like running scientific Applications like BOINC and playing with VMs and nested VMs and other cool software.
Regarding the monitor, you could look into the 42 inch WOLED. There are the tv models of LG and sony, and also monitor options from Asus. There are some pros/cons compared to the QD-OLED, but worth consideration.
Hi,
Regarding the Samsung 990 Pro 2 TB drives, it is possible that there is a firmware or software issue causing the reported failures. However, it is also possible that the failures are due to real hardware damage, or a combination of both. It would be best to check for any firmware updates or known issues before setting up the RAID 0 and to monitor the drives closely for any signs of failure or errors. As for your new build, it sounds like a very powerful system with high-end components. Keep in mind that RAID 0 provides increased performance but no redundancy, meaning if one drive fails, all data on the array is lost. It’s good to have a backup of your important files. For the monitor, it’s good to know your requirements and look for a monitor that meets them, such as the ASUS ROG Swift PG32UQX, which is a 32-inch 4K, over 100 Hz, IPS monitor.
