Samsung 840 EVO Firmware Update

So, as some may know - I have been parroting on about SSD's lately and decided to go with the Samsung 840 EVO. So it's all installed and everything is up and running, installed Samsung Magician, went to do a firmware update and it's all grayed out. However, it is stated on the Samsung site that there is a newer version available.. So the problem I am facing is that I created a bootable DVD and put the newer firmware on it, nothing happens at boot apart from reading the boot sectors etc, then my lappy just restarts, doesn't boot into tools or anything, have also done the same with my flash drive, same problem. Any ideas?

No help on this one guys? I really would like to get the newer firmware installed if possible. Thanks.

PCPer did a video on this a while back

EDIT:

Here is the direct link to download the tool for Windows LINK

Here is a guide from Samsung if you are confused with what to do with the tool LINK

Here is for Mac/Linux bootable disk ISO LINK

I have done everything listed, and none of the Windows programs are picking up the newer firmware, not even the Performance Restoration DOS tool, and I have the newer firmware on there.

I am at a loss.

Is this the first time that you try to boot from any media with your laptop?  I had an issue some months ago with my laptop because it would not recognize any kind of bootable media.   Turns out the problem was the UEFI boot in the bios had to be changed to legacy for it to accept any kind of bootable media that wasn't windows.

My laptop doesn't support UEFI mode, but does have built in boot options (CD, USB, Network, etc)

I replaced the firmware version which is my current one on the USB boot software for the Performance Restoration tool with the newest one, and nothing.

You'd think that Samsung would have made the current firmware version live, instead of making you jump through hoops just to get it installed. :/

Still haven't figured out how to update to the latest firmware, regardless of what has been mentioned in this thread.

I'll keep trying at it, but maybe Overclock.net can help...
