I am looking to invest in a new, large SSD to stream large VSTi sample libraries from and these two seem to be within my price range.
The Samsung 500GB is a bit more expensive than the Crucial 480GB one. I am just wondering if that extra 20GB is worth the extra cash.
At the moment I am just keeping an eye on the prices as they are fluctuating quite a bit. The other day the Samsung was at £179 and now it is £207 on amazon.
The Crucial drive is going from £160 to £169 and back...There are also amazon factory deals for under £150, though I am not sure I want to go for a return. You never know how it has been abused.
At the moment the Crucial is appealing to my thrifty nature, but if the Samsung is better suited to the job (heavy sample streaming/loading) then it could win me over if it came down to around £170 again. The extra 20GB is also handy too.
On a side note, can I restore an OS image from my current OS 64GB Crucial SSD to the 256GB SSD that I will be replacing? Or is it just safer to do a fresh install?

Hey, I have a Samsung 840 Evo (250gb) I have not had it very long about two mounts, super fast and I am yet to encounter any problems with it, and the prices on Amazon change all the time (its constantly searching the web for the lowest price) just wait for a good deal to come around, good luck
Yeah, I recently discovered camelcamelcamel.com that allows you to see the price history of items on amazon and you can also set it to give you an email notification when an item hits the price point that you are interested in.
Really handy website if you are thrifty and patient enough to wait for a great deal.
My current sample drive is a Samsung 256GB drive. It's the one that I am looking to switch out and use as a replacement OS drive for my current 64GB one. It seems a lot faster than the 64GB Crucial drive, and will have plenty of space for some games too.
The Samsung 500GB drive seems to have an edge in benchmark tests that I have seen, as well as that extra 20GB of storage, but the Crucial 480GB drive seems to be more fully featured in other ways.
