Hi all, volunteer computer janitor here. A buddy got hosed on what looks like an AMD Powercolor Red Dragon 5700xt that had its bios messed with. It has a bios switch (silent/oc) that has inconsistent clicks when moving the switch between them. Neither position of the switch matters as the device isn’t detected in Windows, and when the card is by itself, won’t post.
My theory: since there was a sticker on the box that listed it as an Amazon repackaged/resold - someone tried to flash a better mining bios, failed because the bios switch was faulty/between settings or failed on both bios options updates - then this just has just traded hands as an ‘as-is’ through FB Marketplace
What I’ve tried:
- boot into windows with second GPU
- fresh install of radeon adrenaline (after DDU)
- only 5500xt detected in adrenaline
- amdvbios only shows the 5500xt
- removed the cooler, post request, the GPU silicon gets hot
- after which, the silient/oc switch works for fan management, but still no post
What I haven’t tried yet:
- youtube/watch?v=Wol6PUJ8R7w - this guy jumpers the bios on boot, really don’t want to do that
- manual vbios reset with aligator clips or heat guning it off, don’t mind trying it, but as a last resort/yolo attempt
Am I missing something else for getting system level access for a vbios reset or switch soldering attempt?
Thanks in advance.
