S-spec on CPU's

I was interested as to what the "S-spec" listen on CPU's meant.

For example: On inte's website when I went to look up the 3930k that I had just purchased, on the right-hand corner there is a table with 2 different names (SR0KY & SR0H9) and 4 different SKU's for each.

Can anyone shine some light on this?

They are revisions to the CPU after it started going into production. Various things may change such as a change in the CPU trace routes on the PCB or usually a change to the stepping of the processor.

Although Intel list the changes HERE They tend to be just codes for intel to review at a later date. They tend not to disclose this information.

Theres no real difference between the different SKUs and the average user will not notice. Someone who is overclocking and tweaking may prefer a certain SKU over another for something like the stepping.

Could this be an indication as to the potential overclocking abilities of the chip?
