Ryzen 9 5900X Making it stable

I would start looking at the crash logs to see what is going on.

their was a previous motherboard that I thought was just failing, pcie slot failed earlier as did 2 of the 4 ram slots, so I thought I should get a new motherboard and that would fix it

So it appears that gnome is crashing… I would update to 24.04.2. It might fix your issue. If it does not then I’m pretty sure your best bet would be to do a full reinstall of the OS based on the errors I’m seeing. If anyone else has any better insight please chip in.

Try disabling power management features in the BIOS.

Sometimes my computer crashes when it’s powered off.

I looked for any Ubuntu upgrades and it offered me 24.10 so 24.04 LTS must have been what I had

system stopped working half way through update and things are now messed up so a fresh install with a new processor seems to be in order, thank you so much for this

I don’t see why you would need a new processor? It’s very much sounding like Ubuntu has a corrupted dependencies. A reinstall should resolved the crashing. If not feel free to respond here with a new set of logs and I’ll take another look.
