I’m having issues with my current PC I have i5 7400 with Nvidia 1660TI 6GB MSI. My frames keep dropping when I play some games. Someone told me that I’m getting bottlenecked. So I’m thinking of upgrading to Ryzen 3600 with a new motherboard ( Gigabyte AMD B450M DS3H Ultra Durable RGB Motherboard)
is this upgrade good or I’m going to have the same issues?
I would consider a stronger gpu first and then maybe building a newer system in the near future.
Some research on benchmarking sites can help … Just to see what pairs up well or is a good balanced match.
That gpu is entry level card… some tinkering is more than likely required to balance frps and details depending on what kind of monitor you are trying to push.
3600 and 2070/ super would be a decent match up.
Mostly is determined by what resolution are you trying to push and what games you are playing.
To verify this use an overlay to show CPU and GPU usage. If the GPU usage is below 70% and the CPU is pinned to 100% you’re getting bottleneck.
Regarding your build sure, that would be a great combo in my opinion. I’d go for it, but maybe I’d get a better motherboard to go with that. Also make sure that you can update the bios on that motherboard to support 3rd gen Ryzen without any CPU in (or find a B450 that supports 3rd gen already).
For 1440p yeah (though the 1660 Ti will handle that okay as well), at 1080p the 1660 Ti is great. It’s basically a 1070/980 Ti with a much lower power consumption.
An R5 3600 would be an excellent matchup at 1080p, if you’re not playing at high refresh rates then even an R5 1600AF or 2600 is fine.
This is flipped upside down - you have more than enough CPU. Make sure your cooling is fine and motherboard is well setup.
Then go and debug your system.
Upgrading from Kaby Lake to 3600 is just a waste of money in my opinion. If anything some cheap deal on i7k.
Also I feel it is important that you mention your RAM specs and settings because Ryzen performance weirdly correlates well with the amount and kind of RAM you have
Not sure if that combo is even going to work out of the box.
Because i don´t think that the motherboard supports bios flashback.
Unless the board comes pre-flashed already, then it should be fine.
Still not really a great motherboard, but it will do a 3600 fine.
