RX 6400 not detected next to RX 7900 XTX? Code 31

I installed my 7900 XTX yesterday, replaced my 6800 XT. Also had a 6400 installed for the secondary monitor (so the 6800 XT memory would chill and not be triggered by the two high refresh rate displays).

Did a DDU, installed the currently available latest Adrenalin 22.12.2. No display from the 6400. Checked Device Manager, the card was there with the exclamation icon and error saying could not find the drivers for it, Error 31.

Checked out Adrenalin and it showed the 7900 XTX as GPU1, VRAM1 etc, so it knew there was a 2nd card in there, just couldn’t show it. ( With the 6800 XT previously the 6400 would show up as GPU2, VRAM2)

I went to the driver page to the RX 6400 and it showed the same Adrenalin 22.12.2. Had both downloaded and created a checksum and they are the same. (Don’t know how scientifically solid this approach is)

So how is it that I have the latest driver installed, but can only use one card? I had a Radeon Pro W3100 paired with the 6800 XT for testing and it worked fine. Did the 7900 XTX or the drivers broke some compatibility?

You can try installing the driver’s manually, they might be in the AMD folder in root
Right click the device, update driver, browse my computer, navigate to the AMD folder, hit select, and check the include subfolders box

Wasn’t there something about 22.12.2 being exclusively for RDNA3, the older GPUs only get 22.11.2?

When I go to AMD.com and browse for dGPU drivers, only the RX 7000 shows 22.12.2 packages, if I select the RX 6400 I get 22.11.2.

Do you maybe have to install the two destinct drivers in your case?

Thanks, tried it, but it looks like it’s an either-or situation. If I pick the 6400 drivers, it overrides the one for the 7900 XTX.

Guess I’ll have to wait at least till January for a fix…

You are probably right, looking at the driver pages now it is exactly as you say.

Was going to say this, 22.12.1 & 22.12.2 are RDNA 3 exclusive drivers.
