RX 470 vs RX 480

Hey guys I am looking at getting a new graphics card around the $200-300 range. I am just looking for something that will get good frame rates at 1080p. I currently have a 550ti and was looking at the RX 470 and the RX 480. The RX 470 is current priced at $260 and the RX 480 is priced at $329 for the 4GB versions. Would it still be worth it to get the 470?

Wow, where are you looking for those prices? Are those Canadian dollars or something?
For that price difference I would rather get the 470... The performance difference is not that large, and there is 70$ price difference...

Ya unforunately :( Ok sounds good thanks for the input.

Well nevermind all that

just get this MSI 470 probably, unless you want civ 6 on a different model and that deal is available in canada

Asus 480 for $299
I would still just get the 470... The price difference is too large...

Would this be comparable? I'm just wondering because the rebate for this card would drop it down a little lower and it pretty much is the same price as the MSI with shipping included.

The G1 gaming runs hot as shit, not worth it, also I've never know a rebate to actually work

MY Gigabyte G1 R7 360 Single fan card doesn't get past 60 C in a Mini ITX case, my bulky ass MSI R9 390 get's to 85 C in a good case with more cooling. The G1 card was a little bit noisy though, but so was my MSI card.

the 470/480 has a way higher TDP than a 360 though

and a 390 has a very high TDP it's a hard card to cool

True dat, but I figured with Polaris being the way it is, would run far cooler than the R9 390 (but still a bit hotter than the 360).

On another note, there are other RX 470's for the same price so he doesn't have to go G1.

The G1 is dual fan, but poorly designed, there's a red devil single fan 470 that's cheap, but probably isn't worth buying

Best polaris cards to my knowledge are the XFX GTR series, MSI takes second place (even with the very "gamer" color scheme) in my book. Powercolor, Gigabyte, and ASUS polaris cards are pretty sub-par IMO. "Actually Hardcore Overclocking" and Jayztwocents on youtube have pretty good coverage of the XFX and most of the others as well

The RX 470 and RX 480 perform within a 5% margin of each other. the only time The RX 470 starts to scream for help is with games that like to eat VRAM like water. which right now a lot of games are starting to do.

myself personally if you can get the RX 480, then get it. cause the extra VRAM is starting to become a necessity now with games as apposed to a want.
