Rumour: New AMD CPU 5Ghz @ Stock

What do you think? I think I need to see real world tests to see if it smokes Intel and it better because it's $800. If this thing is legit, I would overclock to 6Ghz and use it for emulation.

i've heard that it might be just the cream of the 8350 crop, but idk

i'd say it needs a much better archetecture to compeate with intel, and to warrant a $800 price tag

just like we learned with pentium 4 (? i think thats the one), clock speeds don't mean too much if the archetecture doesn't stand up

I think what makes intel CPUs better is because they don't need a Frontside Bus. It reduces latency like how intergrated memory controllers made the Cas latency almost not matter. If you try to use a Core 2 Quad vs an i5, you'll see a performance hit in the Core 2 Quad due to the Bus speeds and the older RAM. While AMD has Hyper Transport and it maybe better than what Intel had in 2008, it's still not as fast as Intel's QPI.

My guess is, and its a guess, so sorry for guessing my guess but I'm gonna guess anyway:

It has a limited supply. that means mass fabricating it, does not yield much potential profit. Its efficient, but not optimised for mass production, so...

What if amd DID develop a newer architecture and are test flying it?

I mean why is the cpu able to maintain 5 ghz on aircooling only? I cannot do this on my 8350! not by a longshot.

I really think there are some changes under the hood, provided the rumors are actually true.

And even then it's still a guess.
