Router DNS for faster home server file transfer?

I have a freenas box on my home network and have it running plex so i am constantly moving files to it. however I can’t figure out why the file transfers are so slow. I was wondering if changing my secondary dns on my router would stop the multiple broadcasts that come from my computer looking for the server and would make it faster? I know it sounds like a stupid question but i’m very new to this, any help would be great, thanks.

DNS requests are so small that you won’t notice a difference.

What speeds are you seeing?

What’s the specs of both machines?

Are you transferring over wireless?

There are still more ARP requests than DNS requests. In theory, your DNS cache should limit it to one request per connection anyway.

So to answer your question, no, changing your DNS won’t really make a difference. Verifying your uplink speed would be the first place to start:

ifconfig <interface_name> | grep media
