Rooting Xperia Z3?

Continuing the discussion from Converting from i0S 8:

@Nickco43

I am coming back to Droid OS after about half a year with iOS on an iPhone 6. I repaired my wife’s old Xperia Z3, and I’m very interesting in rooting the phone. I have never rooted a phone before, and not sure how popular this model might be for root support? I just switched the Xperia to my line today after fixing the the screen and back panel (cracked from being dropped, no case) and I was able to update to 5.2

What can you recommend for me with this particular phone?

Thanks

What carrier and version of android are you running?

Depending on what model you have you can use sony's bootloader unlock tool but you won't have some oem key that you need for some oem apps and to use your warranty. There are bootloader locked root guides but there only for kitkat. You can use sony's flashtool to flash to kitkat and root.

To root lollipop you need to back up your oems keys with root and unlock the bootloader with a exploit or use sony's bootloader unlock tool depending on the model. Then you can flash any rooted rom. I would read up and take a good look here before doing anything to your phone.

Remember the fact that I have never used a sony phone before and can't confirm any of these methods.

If it's directly from T-mobile. You're boned. They are one of the few carriers like locked the bootloader. I've been boned for quite a while. It would of been nice to have cyanogen but NOPE. T-Mobile.

My apolgies I did forget to include that. I have a T-Mobil Xperia Z3.

Thanks for the info. And I understand no risk on your end it's my doing. I really don't care about warranty as I just fixed the phone today myself. I did this to sell the iPhone 6 and get as much value out of it now before the new model drops and it's worth less.

Would getting the unlock code for the phone help in any way?

Wow this is depressing then, I did not think the T-Mobile phones were an issue.

T-Mobile doesn't normally do this. I've had a bunch of phones directly from them. This is the very first that had the bootloader permanently locked.

The state of things in the US is really sad. I was reading this thinking oh this is simple Sony provide and unlock.. Then read the test of the thread. :/

Is it worth looking up the xda forums there might be a workaround for the T-Mobile version.

Thanks I will head over today and see what I can find.

Have you guys seen this:

Root access gained for T-Mobile Xperia Z3, Verizon Xperia Z3v

I forgot to add the second link in my original post

So I downloaded Kingroot 4.5 and after a few attempts to root, I tried one more time with the wifi off and it worked.

Then I downloaded Supersu from the playstore and installed it. Superstore removes the kingroot app and all it's files. There is contradiction about the kingroot program and the access it has to your/phone info and the servers being in China.

So now I'm ready to start tweaking the Xperia. Just thought I would share the info in case anyone else was interested. This did not unlock the bootloader though, but still gives you more control over the phone and more options than stock.
