It's an older phone I know, but I've got a samsung Charge and have grown fed up with it. Stability is a bit of an issue with the limited RAM in the device, but mostly, I'm wondering if there are any alternatives to the stock android which improve on memory utilization, stability, and/or battery life.
I'm new to the rooting thing, so forgive my ignorance. I've managed to find a few decent looking guides for the actual process, but nothing really helpful for suggesting a replacement ROM. Any and all input would be appreciated.
I've been digging around, and have come up short. It seems like development for that phone isn't very active. However, a simply "de-bloated" stock ROM does fix quite a bit, and those are around. I'd start off here:

My favorite ROM was called RandomROM Thunderhawk, which was for the Epic 4G, which is related to the Droid Charge (same CPU, RAM, etc), and that was simply a de-bloated, modified stock ROM. I shouldn't have to say this, but just in case:
DO NOT FLASH ROMS THAT ARE NOT DESIGNED FOR YOUR SPECIFIC PHONE.
So please don't flash the Epic 4G's RandomROM - it will likely turn your phone into a brick. I just stated that to say rooted, stock, de-bloated ROMs can be much better than stock, bloated, non-root.
I'm not that familiar with that phone but I'd also recomend a stock Android ROM. I know that phone originally released with Android 2.3 Gingerbread, but try to find a ROM with Android 4.0+ Ice Cream Sandwich, as ICS brings a whole array of changes and optimizations to the OS. I'm not sure if there are any Jelly Bean ROMs out there for the Charge, but it'll be even better.
