Room light per WiFi connection

Hello world.

I’ve been wondering for a while now on how to make a light system that when I enter a room the lights turn on and when I leave the lights turn off.

I’ve thought of some WiFi repeater that I would connect to which then is being recognised by bixby to turn on the lights.

Is there a better way. My boss keeps leaving his lights on in his room and it bothers me as we need to save money. And there are so many lights we could have as automatic.

Alvast bedankt

Have you consider Philips Hue? They have motion sensors that can be paired with them and turn the lights on/off based on motion.

I’m not interested in motion sensors. As they might turn off the second one enters the room again and the few minutes would be lost.

If cost saving is the motivator here, consider some ultra low power LED bulbs such as the “Dubai Lamp” which are some of the most energy efficient light bulbs you can buy (if you can source them that is). For example a 3W Dubai lamp can produce as much light as a 60W incandescent.

The simplest way will be a properly configured motion sensor and timings, unless you want to wire up some RFID tracking thing.

I think you probably want to use bluetooth rather than wifi. Level1linux did a video about this kind of thing a while ago.
