Robotic Silicone Tentacle With No Hard Moving Parts

Matthew Borgatti is a Brooklyn-based maker. He is also now the "Grinning Overlord of a Fully Functional Robotic Tentacle." How can this be good for humanity? 

This soft robot is made of silicon and powered by an Arduino and a set of mini air compressors. What are the applications/implications of such a robot? Sometimes a thing just needs to exist. 

In all seriousness, Matt is a cool dude. We hung out at Barcade in NY a few months ago and talked about a few of his projects. Be sure to check out his blog or follow him on Twitter. I think we could use more content like this on the site. Hackers, and makers, hack and make the future. If everyone is interested, I'll stop by his place with the camera the next time I'm in NY.

His inspiration for this tentacle is even creepier/more amazing than the tentacle itself.  Totally ask him about that next time you go to NYC.

I think that these will be developed into artificial muscles for more lifelike protheisis. Time to get augmented!

It would be interesting if they could go medical with this and use blood pressure to control the movement. Might be useful for something like that.

Pretty neat and innovative idea, Hopefully this kind of tech can be utilized for something other than making one's hentai fantasies come true. But hey, even if no alternative uses can be found there is still a market for that stuff. A friend of mine once told a girl "if you wanna be my girlfriend you gotta like one of two things Tentacles or Supprises."
