RMA'd 7870 Still Busted

So after having a hell of a time dealing with a bad 970 Extreme3 from ASRock over the holiday sales season, I had to RMA my GPU because it started showing signs of artifacting, and then just went into the shitter.

I assumed the problems from the ASRock might have done it in, and RMA'd it, through ASUS due to some retarded technicality with their Rebate Process invalidating any RMA status through Newegg.

The damned thing is still giving me the same problems I had before. This time with a new motherboard a Gigabyte 970a UD3P

I'm unsure of how to proceed, I figured it was cooling fine, it was ASUS's Direct CU 2 cooling solution 7870 Ghz Editions. I hadn't overclocked it, I was just in the process of installing drivers etc when it did this, my case was open (Fractal Design's R4) And the room in which I am was pretty damned cold. I'm going to guess somewhere around 65* Fahrenheit when I noticed the screen "tearing" and then finally it locked the screen up.

I'm using a pair of Corsair Vengeance 4gb 1866 sticks & a OCZ ModXStream Pro 700W PSU with a FX-6350. Should I just call ASUS and complain that they never resolved the problem, and hope for a free RMA? Or am I out 200 USD? This kind of thing is ridiculous.

$200 for a RMA? That's ridiculous to me, I would just save up towards a new card then.Perhaps a HD 7970/R9 280x or GTX770.

No I'm jumping the shark here. I'm so incensed I'm not exactly willing to have it sent to them only to have them bullshit me into some sort of damned repair fee for something they never fixed to begin with.

So I'm treating it like it might as well be a 200$ loss.

Asus support has been reported to be bad with there tablets and laptops. There are documented cases where products have been sent back broken or untouched. I hadn't seen a case of this with there computer parts but maybe it is a problem. I'd call Asus and demand a refund and that they fix your card. That's some bull shit especially since you already paid them good money for the video card.

They dont fix the card.  Dont go for an RMA get a refund.

Maybe go on the green team?

Maybe a Evga. I'm not so sure on Msi any more...

I'm not sure I -can- get a refund.

I bought this card around the 30th of November. I spent a couple days wrestling with my ASRock 970 at the time, and realized it was bad, RMA'd it. But when I went to RMA through NEWEGG I was told that ASUS' Rebate program pretty much invalidated any possible RMA window I had with Newegg.

I called ASUS, was told you get one free repair. It took them like two damned weeks to get around to trouble shooting my card, and sending it back to me.

I orginally intended to get a 650 Ti Boost 2GB at the time, but it being the holiday season, and me being abit late I missed out on a deal. But nabbed the 7870 at a pretty good price, I think the rebate was like 50$ at the time.

Hell this is only my 2nd PC Built my first was a Work Station for the missus. I got tired of Pre-builts

This really doesn't sit well with me because right now I'm having my Asus HD 7970 DCII RMA through their Service Center in Indiana. USPS tracking status says it's been delivered, at 11:43am to be exact. It is now 6:28pm it Asus' RMA status website says they're still waiting for my card to arrive.

Furthermore, having read others' experience with Asus RMA in other forums. They have the habit bringing back the same defective product untouched, or worse, in even worse look.

... It wasn't in Jeffersonville was it?

ASUS Service Center

To be exact?

Yes, I just found out it will take the next day for them to report back the status because they require 24hrs it seems after the delivery.

I wish you the best of luck.

They were the ones who were supposed to "fix" my card.

Oh man...

...fuck me.

So you have all ready contacted Newegg a second time explaining what Asus did?

If not see if they will work with you and help you out.  If not see if someone on will "call on your behalf" and have them bull crappie till you get what you want. It got me free over night shipping from corsair

I'm in Indy, if they mess up your card I'll go down there myself and have a talk with Asus. I have not been "pleased' by my Asus wifi card lately anyway...

I hold you to that.

I think I'll try that first thing tomorrow.

I've been doing a lot of reading on this issue and I found that people have more success in RMA'ing if it was done over the phone and the customers themselves specifically requested a "cross-ship". Meaning, you'll send your defective product and they'll send you the replacement at the same time. Only then you are sure that they aren't giving you the same card back.

That's what I'm going to do if my RMA'ed card isn't fixed, which I'm counting on since I did mine through their website.

Whelp here's an Update

NEWEGG can't do anything for me because, essentially the RMA'd card is now considered an entirely separate product.

And after calling ASUS and waiting about 30 minutes, after being hung up on the first time. I was told they would have to "coordinate" with their RMA Team on the state that the card was sent to me in, and at which point they would also "coordinate" further to decide whither or not to honor a 2nd RMA.

If they don't give a second Rma, DEMAND a refund for the shipping and Rma costs. I can understand Neweggs perspective because I think the Asus rma, violates there warranty terms. Bullshit yes, but it is probably in there user agreements somewhere.

We'll freaking see...
