Hey everyone! I was wondering what is the best time to buy new parts for my computer in the upcoming sales like Black Friday and Cyber Monday. Here are the new parts I'm looking to buy, at what price point should I pull the trigger?
3TB Internal HDD preferably Seagate or Western Digital -- Right now about $100
Samsung 840 EVO 250GB SSD -- Right now around $175
500 GB External Drive for backups of my laptop -- $50
...and most importantly a case. I'm trying to decide between the Corsair C70 and the Fractal Design Define R4 or the Arc Midi R2. They're all about $100 now. And my motherboard right now is an Asus Sabertooth X79, and I use a Corsair H100i for cooling. Which one should I get and why? And how cheap can I expect them to be on sale?
The Define R4 is my pick of the cases, its very quiet and cools well enough still, although you could go either h90 or h110 in that case be quieter again than the h100i. Good choice of internal drive and SSD, can't help much with pricing however as I'm not in the states, but PCpartpicker lists those items at about the prices you've listed, so anything lower is a sale price.
Finally the Asus saber-tooth is a good mobo but it'll run you $300 for cheapest merchant non-sale price, so its not a cheap option, its also more stability and long term use geared than than max overclock, so if overclocking is your thing look the ROG way instead, however if you don't overclock at all then the WS boards are a better bet.
+1 on a Define R4. It's a high quality and quiet case.
I would also like to echo the praise for a Fractal Designs case. I own a NZXT and a Cooler Master case and the Fractal just seems to be a much better quality in materials and construction. The define r4 was on sale for $90 shipped on newegg not to long ago. They put the fractal brand case on sale pretty regular lately so keep an eye out for a deal.
Also I have been seeing good 3TB externals for $100 lately. Just about everyday it seems. USB 3.0 also. Take note of the price of those items now and keep watching deals daily. Something will come up.
Thanks for the advice on the R4, I think I'll go with that. And I've already got the Sabertooth and H100, I just wanted to make sure they'd both fit in whatever case I went with and they totally fit into the R4.
Damn! Too bad I missed that $90 deal. I guess I'll just keep checking back within the next week and see when they go on sale.
As for the drives, I'm looking for a 3TB internal drive, probably the Seagate Baricuda, and the Samsung 840 EVO 250GB. The Seagate drives are usually $100 and the Evo is normally around $175 so I wanted to know at what price point I should buy them at.
