It's been two years and i think it's time for an Upgrade. I'm looking to see your ideas on what you would do to this excisting RIG set up. What you would take out to upgrade, what you would keep, what would you add,... ect. My budget Realisticly $600-1,000.00; unrealisiticly $1,500-2,000.
I am a video editor, and I game mostly on this computer. Thanks for the help in advance! First time posting and Love the site!

Ok if your using Adobe Premier Nvidia is obviously the upgrade you need. I would suggest the EVGA GTX 680 4GB, 256GB SSD and some decent after market cooling for your cpu and run it anywhere between 3.6 - 4.0ghz. And perhaps another HDD 1TB or 2TB.
That combo will give you a drastic performance and storage increase and fits within your realistc budget.
Your i7 is very good. http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/cpus/2011/10/12/amd-fx-8150-review/7
you could look at 2011 but thats $550 cpu $250 mb but to tell you the truth for $900+ you dont get a lot.
So in order to recommend where to go we need to know what programs you use for editing. Are you doing Highend work or just for fun. what size case do you have? can you fit a MB's over atx.
plz give a full list of your pc hardware
list your software for editing, down to the version (not games) we need to know if you have any CAD programs animation software extra.
The only thing I would change is, I would add an ssd. Gtx 460's in Sli are still more powerful than a gtx 580. I don't know how the newer cards compare though. If you have the money, get a couple of 7970s. If you want something that edits faster then go for 2011.
I was thinking about the GTX680, i didn't know if the SLI 460's would be better but I use Adobe Premier CS5 and after the upgrades im getting CS6. Adobe loves Nividia so ill def stick with that Thanks for your help!

I was thinking an SSD card as well, i didn't know what size to go or how many to add. I would love to Run win 7 on an SSD and then Run other card to edit video's off and then transfer the finished product to an External. Thanks for all the help!
ok thank you for the update im going to look into it
Adobe products are written to take advantage of CUDA. Comparing cards when it comes to gaming and production work is two different kettles of fish. The 580 and 680 are different architecture, the 680 having more than double the CUDA cores and that's where it all happens in Adobe products.
ok im thinking a new video card, raid card and 5 ssd's (maybe a new cpu)
raid card http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16816118133
cooler http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0051U7HMS/ref=asc_df_B0051U7HMS2225178?smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&tag=pg-399-100-20&linkCode=asn&creative=395097&creativeASIN=B0051U7HMS
ssd x4 or 5 (that raid card cant handal much more than 5) http://www.buy.com/prod/230306365.html
gpu http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130797
I was thinking that a cpu 6 core xeon would help speed up encoding but a better cooler to oc your i7 and gpu sound's like a better way to go
lastly a new cass AZZA Genesis 9000 will give you very good cooling and room to grow http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811517020
comes to comes to 1455. With your setup i wouldn't move to 2011 untill the i7's get 8 or more cores
Akira,
This is what im talking about! This idea is sick i would have to do my rearch on how to install the Raid card and SDD to make it work (I have never installed an SSD or raid card/configuted one either), All these products works for me. I'm going to get try and come up with a strategy on how to install everything. (I'm not a novice system builder but im not advanced by any means wither lol)
Thank you for taking the time to look into this for me! Can't wait to figure all this out! You rock!
I try. post in the forums for help with raid.
