Review My Build, Please and Thank You!

So I'm pretty new to the world of PC gaming and I've decided to invest (what Is I think is) a substantial bit of money into this machine. I really don't want to have to even think about buying a new computer for a couple years (2-3), and I will be using it for both business (day trading) and heavy gaming. To that end I've come up with a build that I like, but I find myself wanting the opinion of a knowledgeable community.

The one thing I know for sure is that as a fairly "green" PC builder I want to avoid water cooling, any suggestions other than that are welcomed. I'm looking for suggestions that can help me cut back on cost, but not if it's going to hurt the performance of my rig. Basically what I need to know is if I'm overpaying for "brand names" and if I'm bottlenecked anywhere.

Thanks again TS Community!

Thoughts?

Nothing negative really sticking out, seems to be a fairly well balanced (if not a bit pricey) system. Only thing that seems a wee bit odd is that your only going for 8 GB of mem instead of 16GB. Not that you really need the extra mem, but if your going this far out on the price line, the boost wouldn't really hurt, plus it can seriously help if you do a lot of file compression. But if this is red-lining your price point, than 8GB will do you fine. I think your pretty safe with that PSU as well, should give you enough juice.

I know others on this board have said they favor other Z77 boards over the MSI Big Bang, so they may have something to say about that board.

There is no real big flaws but to cut back price here and there I would start with grabbing a 2500k instead of the 3570k. I would do this because ivy bridge gets really hot so if you do this in turn you can save on the cooler aswel. By doing that you won't be loosing any processing speed and you're saving about 70-90 bucks. Als if you're trying to save a bit of money the GTX 670 would probably be a better idea, really not much of a preformamce increase from the 670 to the 680 and there is a $100 price difference. Lastly the power supply is overkill, but if you want to have this running for a while with some upgrades down the road maybe some head room is always good. A very solid bull though.

A solid bull indeed.

I think you overlooked the fact that he has 2 GTX 680s in SLI, I don't think the PSU is overkill for that.

Mhmmm just noticed that now , thanks. Well in that case the psu should be fine.

It looks fine to me, but i'd personally change the keyboard to a K60 and maybe change the graphics card to the EVGA version? I bleive it runs cooler and faster, but dont quote me on that.

what is you budget?

Hey GigabusterEXE, I saw the recommendations you've made to other people...really great stuff!

Well, I already have my CPU/Case (3570K/HAF X), so please bear that in mind. I'll be ordering the rest of it on Tuesday, which is why I wanted to run things by TS real quick.

My budget overall for the rest of the rig is $1900.00 + $375.00 for the monitor. I actually completely forgot to ask about monitors...whoops. Could you recommend one that is 25" - 27" that has great image quality for gaming? I'm not concerned about 3-D whatsoever, but 120hz is a priority if possible...I don't see any sense in using 680s (or even 670s) if I'm not going to be churning out the frames.

Thanks for the help.

okay I'll bookmark this and help first thing in th morning sleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep

I'm having trouble finding a 120Hz 27 inch monitor under $450, and how did you get all that under $1900?  was the mouse and keyboard included in that? are you sure you fit 2 680s in it?

here's what I got
