Review: Crossover 324kS LED 3840 X 2160 60Hz FreeSync Korean Monitor | Level One Techs

Buy: http://rover.ebay.com/rover/1/711-53200-19255-0/1?ff3=4&pub=5574962087&t...

Another Korean monitor! Freesync, AH-VA (that is Advanced Hyper Viewing Angle IPS and NOT a lower quality Vertical Alignment panel).

The 324k was Wendell's previous favorite for image quality, but will the updated ks be just as good? Better even!

Surface Treatment : Anti-Glare 3H

Maxes in testing: 4k: 63hz , 1080p: 65hz
Mins in testing: 4k: 48hz, 1080p: 43hz

Note the mins are iffy and freesync can be a bit weird. The safest range is 48-52 BUT I found it quite playable with little to no weirdness from freesync playing tombraider at 4k. The framerate swang from 38fps to 55fps during that gameplay.

I've got a fever too, and the only cure is level1techs videos.

As with your reviews on Teksyndicate, you're one of the few (if not only) Youtube reviewers who isn't just showcasing the product, but instead doesn't mind getting into the technical details (in a useful way) and also evaluate the product more than by it's specifications.
It's just nice afterwards not feeling like you need to google ten things before you can make a decision whether it's interesting to me or not.

You also hilight the things you haven't looked into, which is useful considering the above. Maybe you can finish each review with things you feel you didn't have time to look into ("if this looks interesting to you, this is what we didn't have time to look into, but you could! Tell us your finds in the community article"), or if you feel this it was an exhaustive review (short of going into specific use-case scenarios)? It gives you a chance at inviting more people to the community, and engaging the community in digging out the details.
If you keep the product, it also opens you up to keeping the article current longer, by answering questions from viewers. Time drain from this I can't evaluate for you, since it really is up to each person, but as a consultant I'm sure you could make a good estimate and give a straight answer when something would take too long to look up, or you have to focus on other things.

I also like you're not rushing through the review. "Let's take the plastic off"

You are coming along nice with meme material too:

Ebay link doesn't work.

Also, is this the 32" screen? I don't see the dimensions listed anywhere but it looks like 32".

32" yes

Oh, just got to that part of the video.... 12:00 .....derp.

Just put a dash at the beginning of the line to make it a bullet point. It won't embed if it's in a list.

Cool review. I'm interested to know more about the colour abilities of these inexpensive monitors. I you talking in a stream about getting a calibration tool. I wonder how close the color could really be on one of these displays, because after all; if you can calibrate a display far enough then that's a fair saving!

Also interesting to note, I'm thinking of getting a 4k monitor for my video work. It's proving quite difficult to find monitors out there that I actually want to purchase.
My prerequisites are very difficult to achieve for most monitors, I think I found 5 earlier this week after a lot of searching:

  1. Native 10bit [not A-FRC]

  2. DCI 4k - 4096x2160px

  3. 34" - 39" [my eyes are great. I don't really want a PPi below 120]

  4. Ability to be run on Win 8.1 or OSX Mavericks

Sadly mac support with DCI 4K monitors isn't super popular.
My budget is 2000 NZD
I might also try to push and get a P3 color gamut monitor.
But who supplies when most denies!

Thanks!

Didn't even need to make it a bullet..!

Wow! This is what I have been missing out on lately. Wendell it is good to hear your honest and in depth reviews of tech products. I am glad to hear that I am right in terms of waiting on a 4K monitor til I can get one that is 40 inches. However for other gaming I found a tv that does 4K CHROMA 4:4:4 at 60 Hz and has a reasonably low latency / lag and may purchase that in the future just for my Xbox One. Oh and about projects you really want to do work and no play is a bad thing. Hopefully you get a good mix of what the viewer wants to see and stuff you want to present that maybe won't get as many views. An example of someone doing this is Jim Sterling who has Boglin Watch as a show besides his other stuff on YouTube and he knows it won't get the views he wants but he loves Boglins and while I don't care for them I have grown to love the episodes about them. Yeah I prefer his video game stuff but again a person has to have some fun too making videos. Good luck to Level1Techs btw!

PS: I love the set you shot in for the video.

@wendell For gaming would you rather this 32" 4K - or one of the 40" ones like the Wasabi mango/AMH ?

I would be upgrading from a Samsung U28D590D (which you were not all that impressed with when you reviewed it last year)

It seems like you assume that scaling is always terrible. I have a 27" 4k and the only place I still have issues is with Steam, specifically, and I use both Windows and Linux regularly. Using multiple and/or old monitors, that I could understand. There aren't really 1080p monitors that scale well in terms of size - for 1440p you have to get a 24-25" screen to match in ppi.

With a 27" 4k screen I get ~168ppi. On Linux I just use font ppi and adjust to 144px and that's perfect for me. Compositor display scaling has always been pretty shaky in my experience. And gosh, does high ppi look pretty ;_;

So I see it has 4 inputs, does it also have picture in picture mode?

If so is it possible to hook up all 4 inputs, and in using VSR/DSR can it be turned into an 8k display using the combination of the 2?

Where are the g-sync 4k korean monitors at? Is the cost of licensing g-sync keeping them off the market or something?

I very much agree with your view. I tried adding my thought to it, but it ends up being a re-write of something you have already said.

Just made the plunge! Completely stoked. Now I'm just hoping the duties don't fry me. I'll let y'all know what I think when it comes in. I've been suffering claustrophobia for years with my single 23" 1080p panel :/

I have what I'm guessing is quite a unique setup for the old crossover 324k which some people may be interested in if they are having problems with theirs.

After about a month of owning it I started getting flickering and odd artefacting that I originally thought was gfx card related. This flickering continued for a couple of weeks, at this point some days it wouldn't turn on no matter how many times I power cycled it, after another month of the monitor deteriorating it stopped turning on for whole weeks at a time. I got in contact with the seller but they were not very helpful and said I would need to pay for shipping to and from Korea which is very expensive instead of providing me with a new board.

I decided to take a risk and ended up buying a control board from a company in china through alibaba , the board does not fit perfectly where the old one did but it does work and even the onscreen display can be controlled using the buttons on the side as. It's advertised as having freesync but unfortunately I don't have an amd card to test.

It's probably a bit further than most would go to fix a monitor bought from korea but I'm happy to no longer got a dead 32 inch monitor sitting on my desk.
