So I've been re-building a new computer to play games on and do some fun stuff with some old and new components after having an interesting experience a couple years past. But since 2011, i've been using a laptop, and it just doesnt cut it!
Currently I have a 4670k, 8GB 2400MHz G.Skill Sniper ram, an ASRock Z96 Exteme6 and.....an overclocked Intel iGPU! This interesting and whacky PC is mainly to play LoL and Diablo 3, with some virtualization and productivity for learning/working with.
It's a complete mess right now, using a bunch of stuff from my closet, but its damn fast. Currently clocked at 4.8Ghz 1.356v, with a 4.6GHz unCore, and a 1.8GHz iGPU. I can play my games with high settings (except shadows) at 1080p with antialiasing. Its pretty awesome how far intel graphics hace come.
I will be updating this with more information and picures as the build matures and becomes less...ghetto
All I have to say is... DAMN does Haswell get hot. IntelBurnTest on "Very High" hit 97* while running 10 passes.... and p95 is hitting 73*. My old 2500k didnt go NEAR that, and I was running at 5.0GHz @ 1.5v
Sorry to resurrect this old thread--I really meant to document my progress with this build. I tore out the old PSU I had in that pic, the giant 360 rad on top, and all of those Yate Loon fans, and made a much more elegant looking computer that doesn't look absurd. Below are a bunch of pictures of my computer as it stands now, and of my setup which remains largely unchanged. Specs are:
Core i5 4670k which is delidded, cooled by an XSPC Raystorm waterblock. I have it clocked at 4.6GHz at 1.375v--its kinda a bad overclocker.
ASRock Z97 Extreme 6 Motherboard
8GB G.Skill Sniper DDR3 2400
Gigabyte G1 Gaming GTX 970 which is softmodded and overclocked
Seasonic G Series 650 Watt PSU
NZXT Source 530 Case
All Noctua NF-F12 PWM Fans
RX 240 Radiator for cooling the CPU. It has 2 of the above fans. The 360 rad is in my closet for now, as my GPU is going to remain air cooled.
