Resources

I've stumbled upon a hacking book that actually seems to have some good context. I cannot be called a hacker, because I don't have the experience under my belt. Coming from a beginner, I would check out "Hacking: The Art of Exploitation". It's 29 bucks on Amazon (I'm sure you could find it elsewhere), and it shows you some of the basics of assembly language using C and Linux. I'm not sure how much this stuff could be put into practice by the average IT or entry-level Sec guy, but it's nice stuff to get your brain going. Anyone else have some resources to boost the hacking library?

It really depends what you're looking for, if you're looking for informative books then you could look at some of the following:

  • Ethical Hacking : Learn How to Hack the Web
  • Incognito Toolkit
  • Darknet : A beginners guide to staying anonymous online
  • The Hacker Playbook : Practical Guide to penetration Testing
  • All in one : CEH Exam Guide
  • Information Insecurity
  • Grey Hat Hacking

However, if you're looking for more story/biography books then you could look at some of these:

  • Kevin Mitnick : Ghost in the wires
  • Kevin Mitnick : The Art of Deception // Also informative in terms of Social Engineering
  • Kevin Mitnick : The Art of Intrusion // Also informative in terms of Social Engineering
  • Hackers on Steroids
  • The Dark Net // Generally very interesting. Covers multiple online topics.
  • The United States Vs. PVT. Chelsea Manning
  • Julian Assange : When google met wikileaks
  • The Silent Intelligence

These are a few I've read recently. Personally, I think a few of them were probably not worth reading, however, I've underlined the ones which were to me (Based on interest, most of them at least game some information).

Happy Reading!
