Republic Wireless Opinion

Should I use Republic Wireless?

How do you like republic wireless? I am sick of my iphone 4s it crashes and needs to be restored every 3 months. I am also sick of verizon's costs I can not justify $160 a month for 2 lines.

It's fine. You're not going to get Motorola's updates right away, since RW needs to push their own changes before they reach your phone. You can't technically make a wifi hotspot (unless you root, by which you lose pretty much all of RW's features), and text-over-IP doesn't really work, unless you give your Sprint number, which is subject to change. On the other hand, it's cheap, they have nice features (i.e. pricing relative to your plan, which you can change twice each month).

However, I don't use much data - I saw this on the website:

Our Terms of Service permit us to reduce your on-network (non-roaming) speed for a billing period if you exceed 5GB of data while using cell on-network (non-roaming) during the billing period. Don't fret though! We'll forgive the first time you exceed this data limit. Plus, if you go 6 consecutive billing cycles without exceeding the stated data limit, you'll earn another free pass for this data limit. Any off-network (roaming) cell data will be at a reduced throughput speed and will not exceed more than 25MB in any one month billing cycle. Once you reach the 25MB limit, you will not have off-network (roaming) cell data for the remainder of the billing cycle. See here for more details.

If you use a lot of data, beware.

Thanks im 80% wifi 20% cell right now so this will work out great. Do you use the motoX?

Yep! At the time (last Christmas) they didn't have the Moto Maker option available, nor did it have flexible storage options (16GB)*, so I'm a little bummed about that since it's not nearly as much space as I'd like, and I have the $10 plan, so storing all my music in Google Drive and streaming it that way isn't really an option. Ah well. I hope Republic Wireless come out with the 2nd gen phones soon. I'd love to get my hands on the new Moto X.

* It seems that ever since the new Moto X came out, they discontinued the Moto Maker service for the old Moto X, which means that there are now only as many options as there were before. Daww.

Yeah I read that I am pretty sure its due to the Motorola buyout its now lenovo instead of google. I really liked the built in the USA idea :( I think I will buy the Moto E and wait for a better phone)
