Replacing HP Envy 14 Beats Edition Laptop Processor?

Hello,

I have an HP Envy 14 Beats Edition LAPTOP that currently has an Intel I7-720QM @ 1.6Ghz/2.8Ghz Turbo and I want to swap it with an Intel I7-3630QM Ivy Bridge @ 3.4Ghz. I run Flight Simulator X and Open Broadcaster Software and I am wondering if both processors use the same socket(PGA 988), could I order a intel i7-3630QM and replace the 720QM without the mother board freaking out and the entire computer not working?

Here are the references I have:

Once again the overall question is weather or not I can swap these processors out and keep everything working, one thing to note is that this system does tend to get hot, but I do not know much about the heat released on the newer intel processors, mobile or not. Any feedback is helpful,

No you can't throw in a different generation cpu in your laptop. Won't work at all. If you want a newer i7 then buy a newer laptop.

If your system gets hot which is nothing out of the ordinary with the first gen i5/7's. If you are able and comfortable in taking apart the laptop replace the old thermal paste and give the fans a good clean. Temps will drop dramatically. Chances are there is a video guide around with the disassembly process. If not, take your time, remember where every screw goes, take care with the ribbon connectors and double check everything at each layer.

If you want a zippier experience whilst keeping your existing unit grab a ssd and migrate your is etc to that.

I have taken this system apart before, yes. I will look into getting some thermal paste and whatnot but do I need the cooling pads to be replaced as well(already checked and can't afford it)?

As long as you're careful with the small thermal pads and dont tear them they'll be ok to re-use. New stuff is quite cheap - a large sheet of Koolance stuff cost me like $10 or so and goes a very long way.

Grab a non-conductive thermal paste like that from Noctua or MX-4.
