Replacement for iTunes

Damn that took more time than I thought lol

I still have the ability to deny Windows Updates, so I'm still somewhat in control of my OS.

Beyond that, I'm switching to Linux as soon as school is done (this is my last semester afaik).

If I need Windows for anything, I'll probably either dual boot, or build a cheap, shitty browsing and document PC for it.

I do, just in Ubuntu / Distro of choice - most tools offer same functionality for indexing all your tracks.

When in linux just use what's good for you, in windows use winamp etc... if you like windows media player, stay with that.. dont matter.

WARNING: Some services / software apply filters to tracks playedin them (stereo widening is one of many), this help make tracks (old ones especially) sound better.

SOUNDCLOUD + do such things..

MusicBee is that perfect sweet spot: it works out of the box without having to tinker with it so much (if at all) like iTunes, while at the same offering tons of customization options like foobar.

If you are going to try out Winamp (Which you should be doing) go the the winamp forums and pick up the 5.666 version. Best thing you can do for yourself.

Amarok !

Just try it

Why is it cool,

Well you can add web sources local sources. It will auto grab artwork and lyrics. it is pharcking awesome

I've messed with Foobar so far and it's okay. I actually like that it's so flexible but I'm told that Winamp offers customization as well so I'll try that next.

One of the next issues I'm going to come up against in my move away from itunes is re-organising all the music files. I'm about to build my first NAS and move all my music, movies and important documents away from being local to my laptop/desktops. This means moving what is currently my 'iTunes Music' directory in to the NAS and pointing whatever application I settle on to that directory on the NAS.

Looking at it, this should be easy because iTunes seems to have indexed my files in an understandable and logical way but I'm anticipated a whole world of shit when it comes to actually moving it. My biggest concern is moving music that I bought through iTunes and still being able to stream it from my NAS. I get the impression that Apple will have somehow made it so that I can't do that.

If anyone has done the above successfully and maybe knows some things to watch out for, I'm sure your input will ultimately be helpful :)

Yep foobar is good but I still love Zune... Try out v4.8 https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/confirmation.aspx?id=27163

Looks good and keeps things organized. Doesnt use 1/3rd of the system resources iTunes does.

Winamp. I even manage my iPod shuffle with it!

Great program. Been using it since like, 1997 or something.

AIMP? Pretty simple to use.
