The motherboard in my 17-inch dell 5720 (Actually using the 7720's mainboard - DA0R09MB5H1 REV.H) has gone bad. The first time was GPU failure, but a DELL tech replaced it. Now the laptop is out of warranty, and the board has crapped out... Again. No chance i will try to repair it myself, and dell's only solution is to buy their new line of laptops.
Where is the best place to buy refurbished or new boards for cheap? Maybe, sell my old board? I cant seem to find anywhere that has them in stock.. I've been trying to find other DELL laptop mobo's that would fit, but obviously thats a looong shot. I have found a few sellers directly from china, but they seem sketchy and stop replying when i ask technical questions. I tried a few motherboard repair sites, but no responses. Any help would be appreciated...
It's almost always cheaper to replace a whole laptop then it is to replace the motherboard. Those things are made pretty much custom for each model, so you don't get a whole lot of spares floating around.
By the time you get a laptop out of warranty it's probably a gen or two old as well, so the cost of repair of that older tech vs buying new really blows out the value for money side of the equation too.
I actually found a man in hong kong with a refurbished board ($225usd), 90 day warranty for an extra $10. The laptop is an Ivy i7, 12GB of ram, 650m, 1TB HDD, 128gb MSATA drive and a newly installed 1080p screen... But this isnt my everyday laptop anyways, i actually have a friend who really wants to buy it for a decent price. So im trying to get it together before he comes back to town.
Would still be nice to know of more reliable refurb suppliers, or repair sites.. if anyone knows any.
