I'll soon be installing Linux on relatives computer and assume that, sooner or later, he's going to need some help. What I want to know is if there are any applications that would allow me to remotely connect to the computer (will be running Ubuntu) and be able to control the mouse and view the desktop (teamviewer style). Are there any, perhaps better alternatives?
Ubuntu vanilla comes with a client called Remmina, but in all actuality if you want to use teamviewer then it can be installed as well.
Remmina? I may as well give that a shot. Thanks!
What about VNC? You can tunnel it over SSH (if your relatives run linux a ssh connection will be very useful, you might have to forward ports on their router though, take some unused port and forward it to their machine's 22).
As far as I am informed Teamviewer works on Linux as well. It's cross-plattform and works well with less-tech-savvy people.
just ssh onto the machine.
I like TeamViewer because it doesn't mess things up for you if your relative has a dynamic IP. It's also easier to deal with explaining to them.
But it's non-free software. Something one has to note in context with Linux. But: Works great. We had it running in between Windows, Mac and Linux, worked without a hitch.
I''d just use Remmina. that's what i use. ;)
