I recently made a build and my build started off with an HDD. within the first couple of months my system was running purely on an HDD , only a couple of days ago I purchased an SSD put that in my sata port 1 installed windows on my ssd and then when windows started running properly I re insterted my HDD on sata 2.
When windows lauched it took it a while to detect it but it detected it as 2 partitions(the cache partition of windows or whatever it is that is 100mb and the full size partition)
Now this is where things get funny. Shortly after as I was downloading something into the HDD I got a windows error cant remember what it was but I think it said invalid directory and my HDD was no longer visible in mycomputer. If I restart my computer it is visible for a short while and then it dissapears:S. Wtf have I done wrong lol. dnt think the HDD is faulty as it was running perfectly fine until I got the ssd:o And I am wondering how do I get it completely formated in 1 partition without having to go through windows setup again:o
Yes if you have windows 7 type in your search disk managment. you will see your SSD & HDD in local disks plus your optical drive single right click on your 2 partions of your HDD 1 by 1 and delete them . Then single right on the unallocated partion of your HDD and format that will format your HDD ;-)
Sorry about any spelling or grammer mistakes there maybe they kicked me out of school
hm well for some wierd reason my HDD is not visible in windows anymore(havent formated anything) it just stopped appearing and its not coming up in disk management.
Does it make a difference at which SATA port its connected in? I have my SSD in sata 0 port and if I am not mistaken the HDD is in port 3. This might be the problem or faulty Sata cable?
As far as i can remember on my last build your boot device is your first sata connection then your second drive must go in your second and so on but it should say on your MB manual what to connect to wear just swap them around its not as if your going to harm them to my knowledge

Go to the file explorer, right click computer on the left and select "manage" it will have the administartor sheild symbol next to it. Then click storage, then disk management in the menu on the left side of the window. There will be a list of drives, find you missiing one and right click it, then press create new simple volume and complete the steps.
It fixed that fellas issue which sounds the same as yours.
