well I'm looking at this GPU:

anyone know how MSI would cover this warranty after the retailers warranty is up? Is there one at all?
Anyone ever have expereince with refurbished GPU's at all?
According to the retailer, it's MSI recertified, meaning MSI is providing the 90 warranty, not the retailer. I have experience, but not by choice. I got a refurb MSI N570GTX as a replacement for a Twin Frozr II 560-Ti I RMA'd. That has unstable memory, which tanks performance and causes artifacts. Wasn't too much faster than my old 5830. I gave up since I sent in that 560-Ti twice, and didn't notice the bad memory until a month later.
I've just had bad luck in general with MSI. But generally, manufacturer refurbs are good deals. I have an ASUS 24" monitor I got refurbed, no dead pixels, and still kicking (and let me tell you I use it extensively).
would you say that if a graphics card is working for 90 days that it's going to keep working? haha I just got an email back from the retailer asking about the warranty situation, and it turns out that it's 90 days period, and the standard 3 year warranty is voided with a refurbished purchase. I'm considering it because it's roughly 30 dollars cheaper, but is the decreased cost worth the risk of it breaking after 90 days?
I plan on SLI'ing two of them in my system, so should I just spend that extra money for the warranty?
As I've said, I've had bad luck with MSI. Typically, manufacturer refurbs are like-new, and can last a very long time. My ASUS monitor, which was a factory refurbed and packaged, is still alive after two years.
For MSI, I'm hesitent to say to go ahead because of my personal experience, but for other refurbs, go for it. Also in my experience, if something does go wrong, it usually happens pretty quickly, so that 90 day one should cover most issues, though that 90 day warranty voiding the original already makes me nerveous (think about what that says MSI's refurbing). I don't ever recall needing a warranty near the end of warranty length though.
Im about to buy a refurbished Asus M5a97 pro, as the price i was offered was too good to miss. I'm covered by the UK's fairly generous consumer protection laws, but I'm just going to be super rigorous in stress testing my build.
If worst comes to worst then you are probably going to know within the 90 days if there are any outlying issues. If you are patient and conscientious in following up any inquiries i think you'll get a good bargain
