Any reason why not to buy the dell xps?
I thought the Touchscreen only came with the i7 version of the XPS 13.
But it seems like a pretty good deal nontheless.
More than I would spend on a laptop, but it's a very nice laptop.
Everything I've heard/seen about them has been really solid. I cannot think of any reason not to buy it.
whats the point of a 1000$ laptop if it doesnt have a dedicated gpu? I'd go with a microsoft surface instead
A dedicated GPU isn't entirely necessary for someone's applications, for example my laptop is an "ultrabook" that has an SSD and intel's processor graphics, it's on its 3rd year of life now and feels as if I bought it yesterday. It is used for uni work which is more processor heavy, and the lack of a GPU increases battery life too. Also great for uni.
At that price point you have a fairly solid build quality (which does matter in laptops), and you have a nice SSD in there, a nice screen and the like. The Surface Pro 3 doesn't have a dedicated GPU either dude.
If you arent going to game on it you dont really need an i7 either, I can run Word on a Celeron and do schoolwork, its good enough. If it had a dedicated gpu lets say gf 840m it would be turned off while not in games so the battery would last the same.
Its just a weird purchase ppl who dont Know better get, they see ooo Intel so it must be good.
I Know the Surface doesnt have a GPU, thats why I said if I aint gonna have a gpu I'd rather have a Surface, its cheaper and it can double as a tablet
Word on a Celeron might be what you need, but the programs I use are a bit more CPU intensive than that, plus we're talking about i5's here :)
Tablet functionality doesn't do much for me to be quite frank, but each to their own I guess
Keyboard on XPS is utterly bad, it feels like pushing you finger into a mushroom. Spongy and disguising.
If you want a nice ultrabook give yoga 3 pro a try. I bought for myself a macbook 2015 after about 2 weeks of choosing and comparing, I've personally tried Dell XPS 13, Yoga 3 Pro and Macbook 2015 (using it right now). I especially value quality of the keyboard (i code a lot) and that was ma main focus.
As I said before, keyboard on XPS is straight bad, also XPS is really fat and heavy for a ultrabook.
Yoga 3 Pro's keyboard feels quite nice, could start typing reasonably quickly straight away (trough be warned that keyboard has only 5 rows, F keys under Fn). Battery on yoga is not all that great, but AFAIK you can charge it with powerbank (goole it up, no promises there). Also, it is the thinnest laptop right now, about 11mm.
When I tried Macbook's keyboard I immediately fell in love with it (my previous laptop wax thinkpad x220 with really gorgeous 7 row keyboard). Although no key travel is a thing, it gives a lot of tactile feedback and is really great, I never reached such typing speeds on any other keyboard. Force touch trackpad is great, speakers quality is superb and screen leaves you speechless. Also, it is a really thin and light device, measuring only 13mm in thickest point, although it hides it really nicely, unlike yoga. USB C is not so much of a pain as you would think it would be, I personally almost never have a need for more than one USB device. Oh, and battery is good as well, comparable to XPS.
I want to point out that I'm not fanboy of apple, I hated it till now actually, but I must agree that this machine is really great. Then come at a price, but if you are going to spend 1000$ you can as well spend 1300$ and get a decent machine instead of something that you will regret.
Phew, that was long :P
the macbook 2015 is not the thinnest laptop out there (its also 13.1 mm at its thickest point). The Asus ZenBook UX305CA and Dell Adamo XPS are both thinner and better the macbook.
