Soo… I accidentally formatted my iMac hard drive when I was using Windows on an external drive. I have not done anything with the formatted drive yet so hopefully not much was overridden. Does anyone have a suggestion for a recovery software that might be able to fix this situation?

I would Highly recommend a tool like QPhotoReq. it’s a powerful tool, I use it on Linux and have a Live USB with it on it , but this has an advantage.
By booting into a Live environment you could mount the drives individually. run QPhotoreq and recover your files.
Downsiode : When a drives, Headers and FS get overriden, you might recover your files, but lose naming. There’s a lot that can happen right now so I recommend not to touch the iMac drive at all.
I’ve usually used Restorer Pro (now something like R-Undelete). I no longer use Windows but it was very good at most file systems including software RAID. Never tried it on a mac though.
One of the few programs I ever purchased!
