Recording problems

Ok so if i want to record 1080p videos with dxtory i get a really badframe rate in game ( whilst recording ) and the video file itself is choppy, i did the benchamrk and i record at 55 mb/sec :(  i have an fx4100 and a gtx 550 ti.

basically what needs improving, am i right in saying get an ssd an record to it??

What HDD are you using because your cpu should be OKAY from my understanding but those programs use up a tonne of HDD power.

Hope it helped also maybe try fraps (free) and see how that goes.

frpas is awful, more of a frame drop

You need a dedicated HDD(S) or SSD for recording at 1080p.

If you're using a one-drive system, you're recording to the same drive as your OS and your games.  That will just rape your computer.

One step up from that setup would be to have a dedicated fast (not green drive) HDD to record to, it'll improve performance by a ton.

Another step up from that would be if you could have a dedicated RAID0 of two HDDs just for recording.

Another step up from that would be to have a dedicated SSD for just recording.

And so on...

The main idea here is that your game and OS should not be on the same drive you're recording to.

Also, good choice using Dxtory.  Love that software!

Hope this helps.

Playing my games on the same drive as my os will that effect anything? Another question.    Pin so how do you install an Assad, do I simply just plug in the sata cable into my sad and boom ?

If you aren't familiar with the internals of a computer, I'd highly recommend getting someone to do it for you.  Whether it's a store or a friend, don't do it yourself.

Playing games on the same drive as your OS is fine.  Recording to the same drive as your game and/or OS is not fine.

I've just started Pc gaming so my knowledge of components is at a minimum. I know how to Replace a graphics card and so on but I think if I look at many different YouTube tutorials I can learn

What you need to do when installing a new drive, whether it be HDD or SSD is to plug in SATA power and data, then, go into the Disk Manager in Windows and give the drive a name, otherwise it won't show up in the OS.

simple

Aside from recording to the same drive as your game, decent recording could be achieved depending on the game you're playing. List some games that you plan on going, as well as your processor/gpu. Some games require a powerful processor whilist most games use mostly graphic card power. A simple upgrade would allow you to record much smoother. Definetely get a large drive (1TB +) because raw video takes up massive amounts of space. Also, when you record games in 1080p, make sure when you're converting the files to save it for high-def.
