Really just think I could use RSS for something usful but IDK what to use it for. I can set it to tell me when a podcast is posted and stuff, but can I make a news feed of certain topics? If a YT channel posts? What are the possibilities of RSS?
If a site enables RSS, you can subscribe to its RSS feed, regardless of the content. Could be podcasts, could be comment updates, could be blog posts, news items, etc.
You need a feedreader app or a browser extension.
Using a feedreader lets you pick your own sources, rather than accepting the range of sources businesses like Facebook choose for you. Most feedreaders allow sorting and grouping of feeds into sections/categories, so individual feeds can be assigned to topics the user creates.
I capture the RSS feed from a couple of news sites, such as Phoronix and display the headlines in a window, on my desktop. I have anther tool that automatically downloads new episodes of a podcast, so that I can listen to them in the car.
