Recommended board for high memory Threadripper Pro 7885wx system

Hi all,

I’m putting together a Threadripper Pro system with 8x96GB modules at 5600. Is the Asrock (WRX90) board the way to go? I know there were a lot of initial issues with the ASUS board, but not sure if this is still the case? Also the ASUS qvl doesn’t list any 96GB modules. Any info would be fantastic!

Cheers!

I did the 128gb modules and they were ok.

Report back with pics. Asus ever update the bios? If asus hasnt updated the bios still asrock has a way better agesa for mem cokpatibility.

As an owner of the asus board I can’t recommend it. While its stable once it boots, the board is so quirky and ASUS has all but abandoned the component. Hasn’t received a single BIOS update since it launched. So all the issues at launch are still around. The most annoying one is I can’t actually reboot and about 20% of the time it requires two power cycles to successfully boot.

Yikes, that’s so disappointing, especially for the most expensive, prettiest single-socket motherboard I’ve ever seen.

if you have a ticket open with asus, ask for the beta bios. it at least has an updated agesa which improves the memory training on amd’s side, at least.
