Recommended 4k 120hz display port to hdmi cable

KVM Model:

Dual monitor display port 1.4, two computer kvm

USB (5-gigabit or 10-gigbit):

5 gig

Problem:

black screen, flickering, won’t switch between computers sometimes

Other Notes:

Please recommend a display port to hdmi cable. The club3d link in the help section links to a dp to dp cable and can only find a long club3d dp to hdmi cable. Tried a cable matters adapter, cable and a SWITCHFLUX do to hdmi. Trying to run an lg oled c3 at 4k 120hz. Thanks in advance!

You may get a stuttering sound output via an Displayport to HDMI cable. I already had that problem and after switching back to a Displayport to Displayport cable everthing was fine again.

Thanks for the reply, but I’m not experiencing any issues with audio.

You didn’t specify a length.

However, putting that aside, 4k @ 120hz is pushing the limit of what DP1.4 can do. Keep in mind that’s for a short cable going directly from the computer to the monitor. Once you add a 2nd cable, KVM, and possibly an adapter, it’s going to be really hard to make that reliable. The spec just wasn’t made to support it.

If the KVM is active, then it’s got a better chance.

I had all sorts of trouble getting a Samsung G95 to work at high refresh rates. Ended up being two problem. First was cable. But the 2nd I didn’t figure out until later. The ports on the Asus 4090 just could not reliably drive DP 8192x2160@120hz even with a DP80 certified cable.

When I swapped to the 5090, suddenly it worked, not just at 120hz, but 240hz, full rez.

The bottom line is signal integrity at these data rates is really difficult. The more parts or longer cables you put between the compute and monitor the harder the problem becomes. 1st thing I would try is bypassing the KVM. They are nice, but in my experience, not really compatible with cutting edge monitors.

Hi rjsams, thanks for your reply.

1 meter would work great. I understand that it’s pushing dp 1.4, but plenty of people have successfully done this same setup. Unfortunately the cables that are recommended are not available anymore.

What cable did you use for your setup?

@Level1_Amber, or @wendell, is there a new DP to HDMI cable recommendation for 4k 120? Thanks in advance!

I’m using a “Cable Matters [VESA Certified] 80Gbps DisplayPort 2.1 Cable - 6.6ft / 2m, DP80 Cable”, but it’s DP to DP.

The wife has her monitor running at 120hz with the hdmi cable that came with her monitor (another 8196x2160 samsung) and a DP to HDMI adapter we had laying around. She’s running a RTX A5000 though so I would expect it to have very clean signal out.

Hmm so do you want one just shorter? These adapters worked when I tried them:

Can confirm that adapter works at 4k120hz
