Recommendations?

I am starting to run out of books to read. That is mainly due to the fact that all of my favorite stories are the ones that are a few hundred years old or more. So, can anyone recomend me some books along the same lines as the Illiad, or The Divine Comedy?

The Odyssey? There's always the books about King Arthur and the Knights of the round table as well.

If you're looking for something more modern, I would suggest Game of Thrones and the rest of the books in George R.R. Martin's series. There's always The Lord of the Rings books too if you want something more along the lines of adventuring.

I read the Odyssey, I just could not for the life of me remember how it was spelled, despite the fact I have spell check. I can't believe I forgot about King Arthur though, thanks for reminding me.

No problem. I've only read one or two stories from the King Arthur story arc myself, but they were great from what I remember.

There's always Shaekespheare too if you're into that.

Look up Greg Egan. He writes some of the hard SciFi around. Permutation City is a good place to start.

Thanks for the responses. I should be busy with King Arthur for a little while.

If you like the 80s and video games and pop culture references, "Ready Player One" was a great read !!

Similar to the Game of Thrones series, if you're into medevil fantasy, the Eragon books were great although written for younger readers. Yes the movie was terrible but the books were well written and the characters well rounded. Also game of thrones lol.

I have actually read them, and I did love them, especially the last two.

How about [Olympos] and [Illium] by Dan Simmons? They are essentially sci-fi reimaginings of the battle of troy and associated events (well, you can imagine of what, really, just by the names). It's not a re-write as such, but rather a SF epic in which, er, the history is replayed with post-human intervention masking as Olympian Gods; the style is quite interesting and not dissimilar to translations of source material, and Dan Simmons pays a lot of attention to prose and respecting other authors & peopts from history. And both novels are quite long, so you won't go through it in one sitting.

If you are looking for historical fiction I would highly recommend "The White Company" or "Sir Nigel" by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle or if you want something really involving pick up something by Henryk Sienkiewicz (i.e. "The Trilogy", "Quo Vadis", "In Desert and Wilderness", or "On the Field of Glory") But then again I suppose that it all depends on your taste.
